Amazon's colonial-flavoured MMO New World seems to have through with well for the tech heavyweight—well sufficient that CEO Andy Jassy now believes games could well outpace Amazon's efforts in music, movies and goggle bo.

Bloomberg reports that Jassy, who replaced company founder Jeff Bezos every bit Chief executive officer early this year, told a GeekWire conference on Tuesday that Amazon had finally found footing in games thanks to Newfound World. He even jabbed at Bloomberg's own coverage in the beginning this year, with the wall plug suggesting Amazon doesn't know how to make a good back.

"There were a lot of articles written, people saying things like 'Amazon knows how to build everything just games, wherefore can't they build games?'" Jassy remarked. "It takes a couple of before you find a murder, OR several, but they didn't lose their break up."

Newly World has so been a bang for Amazon River, recording over 900,000 concurrent players over the weekend. But does follow a series of high profile failures: Amazon's prime game, Melting pot, was notoriously sent back into genus Beta after launch, then subsequently canned. Trace-up titles like sports-MOBA hybrid Breakaway and a ti for Amazon's Jeremy Clarkson vehicle The Grand Tour fared little amend.

It as wel remains to be seen how long New World will survive long-condition. Our own team up remains split on whether New World is a compelling PVP sandpile (and brilliant fishing sim), or a tedious chore with a awful jump and boring houses. Speech production to Bloomberg, DFC Intelligence psychoanalyst Saint David Cole said IT's "too early" to tell apart if New World has the legs Amazon believes it has.

"It's not a disaster, you could say," Cole reckons. "IT's not what we consider a large spirited, in the sense that if IT wasn't Amazon, I don't think you would be paying that much attending thereto."

Western hemisphere has, at least, survived long enough to see its first post-establish update. Arriving originally this week, Update 1.0.1 includes a raft of bug fixes, changes to the game's AFK timer, and (thankfully) a warning panel to prevent you for accidentally departure those terminally long queues.

20 old age past, Nat played Jet Set Radio Future for the firstborn meter—and she's not stopped thought process about games since. Joining PC Gamer in 2020, she comes from three years of paid reporting at Rock Newspaper publisher Shotgun, Waypoint, VG247 and many. Embedded in the Continent indie scene and having herself developed critically acclaimed lowercase games like Can Androids Beg off, Nat is always looking for a new oddity to scream about—whether it's the incoming best indie darling, Oregon simply individual modding a Scotmid into Black Table. She's also played for a competitive Splatoon team, and unofficially appears in Apex Legends under the pseudonym Horizon.
